'Will Never Be Forgotten' A local community is mourning Caden Tellier, generosity and love Caden Tellier, the quarterback for Morgan Academy, died Saturday home opener night, his family confirmed on social media.
While researching and writing a story on Champion in 2017, I recall being struck standing in Perry Cemetery at Champion's gravesite by the simplicity of the stone but the tragic gone-far-too-soon message it conveyed: "Vaughn M. Champion — (March) 4, 1910 — Oct. 5, 1928"
Nearly a century ago in 1928, Champion was a senior at Perry when he died as a result of head trauma while making a tackle in a game at Mentor. He was the first high school student-athlete in Lake County to die while in competition.
The French striker now has 301 goals for Real and trails only Cristiano Ronaldo, Raul and Alfredo Di Stéfano in the club's all-time list of top scorers.
If he is out for eight weeks, he would miss two Champions League group games and up to 10 Premier League matches.
It is inevitable amid a contact sport all dangerous contact and situations cannot be eradicated, much as we wish it could. Efforts are made to make football as safe as possible for student-athletes.
New Jersey high school football is back and so begins our Player of the Week polls for the state. Teams in the preseason showcased what they’ve got heading into Week 2 of the regular season.
Ed O’Neill conveyed it so effectively as an actor, in fact, that the vision had staying power as far as that guy who couldn’t quite let go of his gridiron past — not to mention his sense of the game.
